Unplanned Teenage Pregnancy Story

In the bathroom stall of a Target shopping center, I feverishly tore open the home pregnancy test I had just bought, and hovered awkwardly over the toilet seat. I didn't read the box with instructions on how to actually use the test, but then again why would I? At 19 years of age I knew everything... right? As I peed on the pregnancy test I felt the wetness of my own urine splash up against my fingertips. How in the hell did I get myself into this mess? Sex was the obvious answer!

After emptying my bladder all over that stick, I put the cap on and waited. My high school best friend shouted at me from the other side of the stall. She impatiently waited for me to emerge and tell her what we both had been dreading. After about a minute I looked down at the test. Negative. How anticlimactic.

"It's negative," I shouted to her from inside the stall. I emerged to see her smiling and clapping. Noticing the confusion or sad expression on my face, she questioned me. "What's wrong with you? Aren't you happy its negative?" Of course I was happy it was negative. I was only 19 years old. I was in my first year of community college. My boyfriend was a senior in high school. We both still lived with our parents. I had no job or any means of supporting myself and this potential bundle of joy.

Despite knowing that I was not ready for a child emotionally or financially, I somehow felt disappointed. From the time that my boyfriend dropped the bomb on me that he allowed himself to ejaculate into me, I had gotten used to idea of having a little baby. Of course I was scared. Who wouldn't be? But, it somehow felt wrong that this test was negative. My friend berated me all the way home. As we sat on the public bus, she scolded me about how I was stupid for wanting to be pregnant. She yelled at me for being selfish for wanting to bring a little me into the world. She was right, but I didn't care. Our friendship shortly dwindled after this.

When I got home, I told my boyfriend that I took a test and that it was negative. He was elated! We continued on with our relationship making sure to be much more careful about our sex life. Now we used the pull out method (eye roll).

About a month later I felt an uncomfortable itch and smelled a strange odor while using the bathroom. I had my mom set up an appointment with an OBGYN to find out what was going on. The nurse had me pee in a cup as a routine measure. I sat on the patient bed waiting for the doctor. The white sanitary paper loudly crumpled under my itchy bottom. I rocked side to side hoping the friction would soothe the unbearable itch. What was taking her soooo long!!! The doctor finally came into the room. She looked at me and said, "Congratulations! You are pregnant."
